Mass Messaging: Sending SMS and Email simultaneously

Feature Request

Is there a way to add this as a feature? We frequently blast our clients via SMS and Email simultaneously if there is an outage at a tower or something, and we just have to do it twice. Is there a way to add this as a feature to just do both simultaneously?

    Thank you very much for your request.

    The main challenge in implementing this functionality is that emails and SMS require different formats for text presentation. As you’ve seen, emails use a WYSIWYG editor, while SMS relies on a plain text area.

    If emails require tags to format the message, SMS does not — so the same input field cannot be used to compose and send the same message across both channels.

    I think the way they do it currently is wise, since most SMS services charge by the “segment”, and if you include any non-ASCII characters, you can easily double or triple the number of segments you send. I actually wish that any SMS-related templates in Splynx would get “pre-checked” for characters that don’t fit within the standard SMS character set, and it is much easier to run that kind of check if it is “known” that the message is only for SMS.

    (It’s mildly frustrating that when configuring SMS templates, the character count isn’t displayed, either)
